The first thing I noticed when I stepped out of the airport was the humidity. I’m from Corvallis, Oregon, and humidity is never a concern. I grew up in Iowa, so the weather was a harsh reminder of a part of the Midwest I don’t miss!
We loaded our luggage into the two SUVs waiting for us in the parking lot and drove up to Ames. Angelica, our driver, is a graduate student at the VRAC. She pointed out landmarks like the gold dome of the state capitol building in Des Moines.
Our first stop on campus was the administrative building for Frederiksen Court. We signed some paperwork, got our keys, and walked over to our respective apartment buildings.
