We started the day at 8am and walked to Howe Hall, where the VRAC is. We ate a modest breakfast, signed some paperwork, and did a pre-program assessment, all in the conference room. After all that (about 2 hours), we toured Howe Hall.
After leaving Howe Hall, we took a campus tour and got our ID cards along the way. We talked about the places where we can eat and then went to West Street Deli for sandwiches.
After lunch, we returned to Howe for more activities and orientation. At around 3:30, we headed back to the apartments on our own and had some trouble finding building 43 among the maze. Once inside, I filled out the Inventory and Condition form, which involved testing everything that moves and checking every surface for damage.
Once that was out of the way, I called friends and family at home (one is at another REU, actually!) and then talked to Stephan extensively about number theory until bed time.
