I apologize dear diary for my tardiness. I felt quite exhausted when I got back to the dorm, and so writing to you had to be put off.
Yesterday marked the transition of a great era: the departure of Jodi. May the odd rendition of a beach at paradise accompanied by cake and ice cream send you on your way.
Additionally, we started SolidWorks. I have used a modeling software package before, and I must say my first impression of SW does not compare well to my memory. In Middle School I was able to build houses, pools, anything my itty mind could come up with. Yesterday I spent nearly an hour trying to hollow out a brick. The instructors couldn’t figure out why my particular method was not working. But, amusingly, my grad mentor came downstairs and then fixed all my problems in less than two minutes.
Looking ahead, I very much want to start work in the lab soon. I do have a few assignments to work on while the others finish their training, so at least I wont be bored. We’ll see how that goes.
On a final note, I help refurbish a bike this weekend! I went in thinking it was going to be a 3 hour workshop, and in return, receive a bike. Instead, it was a nonprofit bike place that gives bikes to homeless or others in need. How rad! I ended up spending most of the three hours helping Val on a project other than my bike. I also chose a bike that needed a bit more work than the others (but it turned out to be a collectible, which is cool). In the end I spend around 6 hours there. I have a fully functional bike now! Though in the last minute Val realized that she had replaced one of the gear shifts with the wrong model so it’s a bit of work to change one set of gears. Eh, I’m pretty happy with it. Also, I may go back next weekend to finish it up, as well as do more helpful volunteer things, which I am excited about.
We hope you’ll tune in next time,
