Weekend Fun and Deeper Dives – June 21st to June 24th
June 21st
The end of this rainy day was alright. I had to finally present for the week and I was definitely nervous but I was proud of myself for getting through it so it all worked out in the end. I didn’t really get any critiques on it so I’m not sure what they thought of it overall.

Today we went to brunch and downtown Ames and it was so much fun! We went to Arcadia for brunch and it was this cute little cafe perfect for the rainy weather that morning. Later on we went to the farmers market since the weather cleared up. I ended up getting some strawberry rhubarb jam. There were so many cute shops there too like a gorgeous chocolate and gelato place. I can’t wait to go back again!

Today is Emmanuelle’s birthday! We decided to surprise him by going to Perfect Games for bowling, Jeff’s Pizza for dinner, and ended with a game of giant Uno and cake. It was a really great day! Before all that it was just catching up with chores that I don’t have time during the week to do. It overall was a fantastic weekend and it felt really good to go out and have fun. 🙂

Back to work! We started the day out with deeper dives and I’m so glad I am on the 3D printing team! I had sort of done 3D printing in high school and I’m actually surprised at what I still remember. I had been thinking more about what I wanted to do for my project and had come up with some ideas for combining 3D printing and augmented reality (AR). After Nina had mentioned about building a rubiks cube with a 3D printer I had the idea to try to bring one into AR after designing one. Though after looking into how rubik’s cubes are made I decided to just make the whole cube instead of trying to make it mobile. My idea with bringing in the AR is to have the colors of the rubik’s cube be randomly generated onto the blank 3D cube simulating a new puzzle to solve. Basically in the end the goal would be to have an AR rubik’s cube game. Getting a movable part though will be an eventual step.
