{"id":1763,"date":"2024-07-08T14:03:25","date_gmt":"2024-07-08T19:03:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/projects.vrac.iastate.edu\/reu2024\/?p=1763"},"modified":"2024-07-08T14:03:25","modified_gmt":"2024-07-08T19:03:25","slug":"july-8th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/projects.vrac.iastate.edu\/reu2024\/2024\/07\/08\/july-8th\/","title":{"rendered":"July 8th"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CRAFTS OF RESEARCH <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Today was a day filled with discovery and learning, kicking off with an enriching session on the &#8220;Crafts of Research.&#8221; The morning was dedicated to honing our skills in presenting research posters, a crucial aspect of sharing and communicating scientific findings effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Presenting a Research Poster: Reducing Heat Morbidity in Lower-Income Societies<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>During the session, we focused on a compelling and urgent topic: &#8220;How to Reduce Heat Morbidity Rates in Lower-Income Societies.&#8221; As global temperatures continue to rise, heat morbidity has become a significant public health concern, particularly in lower-income areas where access to cooling technologies and healthcare may be limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We learned various strategies for creating an impactful research poster, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Clear and Concise Messaging:<\/strong> Keeping the information straightforward and avoiding jargon to make it accessible to a broader audience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Visual Appeal:<\/strong> Using graphs, charts, and images to convey data and make the poster visually engaging.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Logical Flow:<\/strong> Ensuring that the information is organized logically, guiding the viewer through the research question, methodology, results, and conclusions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Engagement:<\/strong> Preparing to answer questions and discuss the research in more depth with interested viewers.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Questions and Curiosities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I left the session with several questions buzzing in my mind:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>For the Curiosity EEG Group:<\/strong> How do you plan to integrate EEG technology into everyday classroom settings? What challenges do you foresee in terms of accessibility and affordability?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>For the STEM XR Group:<\/strong> How will the game be tailored to different learning styles and age groups?
