Progress…doubts
I think my MCA deeper dive project is coming along pretty well. I’m finding different models of what I want to print that are cool, I’ve tried different materials- some have failed, and others have succeeded. But honestly, I’m a little doubtful about the effectiveness; I mean, I have a defined problem, I have a solution in mind, but I feel like what I am is incomplete, especially in terms of coding. My MCA includes Arduino programming. But Alex reassured me that the product doesn’t need to be perfect, very professional, excellent; just something that’s functional, the idea, the process, matter most-but hey, I’m a little too ambitious and time is limited at the moment. I even designed a bracelet myself on SolidWorks with Emily’s help but, it was not an easy task. Thanks to Sam who checks my prints when I am a little inattentive or disorganized in the lab!!
In our group (Additive Manufacturing), I’ve also noticed similarities between our different ideas-maybe we can continue to work on that even after the program with Alex and get something really nice. Glen helped me a lot with Arduino wiring; I even learned how to solder a wire (I learn new things every day here!). I’m still working on the Arduino programming.
We went on a soundwalk around campus today for our main research, listening to and recording sounds; it was pretty good and, above all, therapeutic. Interesting a bird sound, depending on the environment, can resonate differently.
Overall, this week really felt like a week 5.
Looks like quite a week. Think back to where you started in week 1. Now you’re printing parts and working with Arduinos. You may have doubts, but we are very impressed with your progress.
Thanks Eliot :). It’s really a huge change when I look back. I can print parts with different software and on different machines – I’m so grateful and impressed myself.
