Nathan received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University in 2021. He started with the Claussen Group during his senior year and continued with the group while pursuing his Ph.D. Nathan is in his 4th year of his doctoral studies where he focuses on the integration of biosensors developed with the Claussen group and custom electronics for real-time monitoring of agrochemicals. In his free time, he enjoys going to the gym, playing with his dog, and watching Iowa State sports. Go Cyclones!

Gustavo holds a Master’s degree in Food Science and Technology (2019) and a Bachelor’s degree in Food Engineering (2017). With a background in R&D, he has gained valuable experience in the development of food supplements, nutraceuticals, and applications of nanotechnology. His expertise includes the study of the bioactive and techno-functional properties of biomacromolecules and compounds of interest to the food industry. Currently, he is pursuing a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, focusing on the development of ion-selective electrodes for applications in agri-food systems. Outside of work, Gustavo enjoys playing volleyball, lifting, swimming, and spending time with friends.

Roham Gholamhossein Goudarzi received his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tehran in Iran. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in the Claussen Group, where his research focuses on developing sensors for environmental monitoring in river waters and streams, with a particular emphasis on precision agriculture. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing video games, and going for walks.

Ethan received his B.S. degree in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, and his M.S. degree in Analytical Chemistry from Iowa State University. His work in the Claussen group focuses on developing ion-selective electrode sensors for nutrient monitoring in hydroponics and farm fields, towards advancing precision agriculture. In his free time, he enjoys swimming, playing instruments, and exploring new places and activities.

Griffin Ellis received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a Biomedical Engineering minor from Iowa State University in 2024. He is a first year Ph.D. student with research interests of in-field deployment of biosensors and microfluidics through integrated systems. Griffin’s hobbies include 3D printing, playing Dungeons and Dragons, working out, and learning new languages.

Kirtivardhan is currently in his final semester of a B Tech in Biotechnology at Bennett University, India. He is working as a research intern at the Claussen Group at Iowa State University, where his focus is on developing biosensors for pesticide detection in river waters. His work aims to contribute to environmental monitoring and the protection of water resources. Outside of research, Kirtivardhan enjoys anime, playing soccer, writing, and exploring music.
