Northern lights

Staff may be a little groggy this morning. Last night was a magnetic storm that produced northern lights. Not often are they visible from here, but last night was unique. My son and I drove outside town to watch. What we saw was a long white band that looked like clouds, and waves pulsing every two every seconds up over our heads. The naked eye could see hues of red and green, but it wasn’t until we took some long exposure shots with our phones that we could bring out the colors that were right in front of us.

Excitement is growing

Welcome to the REU|2023 blog page. We are still several weeks away from the beginning of another exciting summer REU program! This is hands down my favorite part of this job. For 10 weeks a group of total strangers comes in, get to do really amazing activities, have access to all our facilities, hear from top faculty, learn what it means to be a graduate student, and leave as family. This year will be slightly different for me personally, as my daughter is doing an REEU program at another university this summer. Yes I spelled REEU correctly, it’s the USDA equivalent version of an NSF REU. I’ll be just as excited to hear how her experience is going while helping you all have the best possible experience here. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any pre-arrival technical or IT related questions.
