Today we started with the 2nd lecture in our Craft of Research series. We were able to work together in our research teams to come up with short project statements for our respective projects. This will help us in the future with our writing and it will also help us explain our research to other people. So far, I am enjoying the craft of research series, but a lot of it is stuff I am already familiar with.
Later in the day, we got to have lunch with Dr. James Oliver. He had lots of great stories about his career and research where he gave us 3 things to remember: 1) under-promise and over-deliver, 2) don’t be a wallflower, and 3) imposter syndrome is normal and almost everyone gets it. For me, the most impactful parts were when he talked about imposter syndrome and his experience with grad school. I thought that all of his stories were really interesting and there were lessons in each one that we could use to guide us in the future. Overall, it was a great lunch and even better conversation.
P.S. here is a picture I took in the library when some of us went to study this weekend.
