6/18/24- Ruby
Last night was pretty uneventful- I just stayed home and worked on homework. I read an interesting article about how we must consider all of the meanings, life circumstances, and experiences of users when designing technology. I also got to see some of the data that the CommHEAT team collected last year and took some notes on that as well.
Today, we had another craft of research lecture where we talked about the methods, results, and discussion sections of research papers. I really liked the article Yvonne used as an example. It talked about how certain balances of warmth and competency in AI teammates affected the reception of the AI in human teams. This reminded me of the warmth-competency matrix I learned about in my Psych of Women class, where women in the workplace have to choose warmth or competency to be respected at work.
Our lunch lecture today was with Eliot, which was nice. I liked getting to know more about his research since we’ve seen him around a lot but didn’t really know what his background was. Some of the things I took from his lecture were: 1) In school, it’s not where you go that’s important but who you work with. 2) Things change rapidly during school so make sure you are ready to adjust. 3) Think about job qualities you like, not necessarily the job title you want. Overall, I really liked his talk and he is very engaging when he is telling stories.
Tonight we have a dance fitness class. I am assuming this will be similar to some Zumba classes I have done in the past, so I think it will be fun to see everyone try their best.
Here is another picture of campus:
